ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Police say a man on an illegal dirt bike on Bay Street Wednesday night died when he was rear-ended by a drunk driver.
Based on a preliminary investigation, the dirt bike was not in motion just prior to the crash, police say, adding that the dirt bike was not equipped with headlights or taillights.
The 36-year-old driver died at the scene. The man driving the car was charged with DWI.
Illegal dirt bikes on city and county streets have been the center of much debate this year. Monroe County recently passed a law giving police the power to impound ATVs and dirt bikes operated on roads and sidewalks.
