A lot of parents want to get their kids out of the house to enjoy Mother Nature this summer after a year of being cooped up inside.

Good news for Boy and Girl Scouts this week after Gov. Cuomo updated guidance for camps.

To attend this summer, children must meet one of three criteria – they’ve been infected with COVID in the past three months, have been vaccinated or are tested 72 hours before the start of camp.

While scouts are excited, parents choosing to vaccinate their children need to be aware of time restraints.

“Gotta have that three week time limit in-between the two vaccinations, plus the two weeks of letting the vaccine set in before it becomes effective. So make sure you strategize if your son or daughter is going to camp in July or August, when do I have to get vaccinated by so its effective by the time they get there,” Seneca Waterways Council Executive Director Stephen Hoitt said.

“We haven’t been able to do a lot of in-person things,” Girl Scout cadet Stella Adsit said. “But now that things have started to open up, we’re starting to be able to do more things together, not just on Zoom, so I’m pretty excited about that.”

Camp-goers who are vaccinated will only need to wear masks around those who are unvaccinated, while unvaccinated scout will always need a mask.
