ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans’ top leaders are now responding to Tuesday’s protest that shut down its East Avenue store for nearly an entire day.

Colleen and Danny Wegman say they have zero tolerance for racial discrimination of any kind and welcome diversity, but did not specifically address protestors concerns.

They said, in part: "It takes time to truly understand the significance of these events and how we can learn from them. We have a caring, listening culture at Wegmans and always seek to understand prior to sharing our response."

Protesters tell Spectrum News they targeted the store because of its use of Rochester Police at the entrance and to spread their message to a different community.
