GREECE, N.Y. — After the CDC changed social distancing rules to three feet for schools last week, some local superintendents say they're starting to put plans together to possibly full reopen.

This news comes despite a lag in a corresponding change in guidance from the New York State Health Department.

Greece School Superintendent Kathleen Graupman says there will be some challenges, but she wants to be ready to get more students back in school as soon as possible, provided the local transmission rate cooperates.

"I am moving forward at this point. I have said for weeks now that I want to be ready the minute that I can to get our kids back to school. We have put a date out there, April 19, the beginning of the fourth quarter. I'm being real clear about that date because I want to be clear in terms of planning and preparation and our readiness to shift to that right away," Graupman said.

The governor reiterated Monday afternoon that districts can have social distancing less than six feet if there are barriers in place.

Graupman says that'll be a challenge in elementary schools, but they're working on it. She also adds that buses will be at two-thirds capacity.
