ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The United Christian Leadership Ministry is commenting on what it says was “savage and ruthless” treatment by the Rochester Police after a woman was pepper-sprayed and arrested with her 3-year-old nearby last month.
The Ministry reviewed police body-worn camera footage of the incident on Portland Avenue on February 22.
It's calling for City Council and New York State to investigate the Rochester Police for what it believes is the existence of white supremacist elements in the department.
One pastor says Rochester has a history of incidents like the one on Portland Avenue, and it needs to come to an end.
"The inhumane treatment and lack of compassion for Black and brown males, Black and brown females, and now we have to add Black and brown babies is unacceptable. This has been happening too long in Rochester and nothing is changing," Wanda Wilson, of the United Christian Leadership Ministry, said.
RPD placed the arresting police officer on administrative duty.
