Finding joy where you can during this stressful time could be as close as your public library.

The Greece Public Library has put together the "Expand Your Reading Horizons" winter reading contest. It includes 25 different reading challenges to get you started, inspiring you to keep reading and win some prizes.

What You Need To Know

  • Winter Reading Challenge is underway at the Greece Public Library

  • It's a five month challenge to inspire people to explore the joy of reading

  • You can sign up for the reading challenge online at www.greecepubliclibrary.org

"We have lots of categories that you can read," said Kirstra Otto, librarian at the Greece Public Library. "Find an award-winning author from this century, or a book whose author or main character has a disability, or how about a nonfiction book about a subject you don’t know anything about, or a book published in 2021. The idea is just to give folks a gentle nudge to go outside of their comfort zone to pick up something new and maybe find a new favorite author or genre that they would really enjoy."

The reading challenge runs now through the end of May. If you read a minimum of five books, you can earn a small prize and then get entered into a chance to win more prizes.

Libraries across Monroe County are doing all kinds of programs online including book clubs to help stay connected to its community of readers.

The Greece Public Library is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Check with your local library for hours of operation.
