GREECE, N.Y. — The Village at Unity is responding after an elderly man who left the facility was found dead on Sunday.

The body of the 92-year-old senior living resident was found in a nearby pond a day after he had last been seen at the facility.

The Village at Unity says he was traveling on his own to get medical care at Unity Hospital.

A statement released by the facility says it is working with Greece police on the investigation and has no further details to add.

Officials there say residents are free to come and go as they please:

"We have policies in place to ensure the safety of our independent living residents, but The Village at Unity does not prohibit these residents from leaving the community on their own if they choose to do so."

At this time, Greece police do not consider the incident suspicious.
