The Genesee Brewery will not be putting up it's popular keg tree this year because of the pandemic.

The tradition began a few years ago and has quickly become a favorite in the city of Rochester.

Kegs are stacked in a pyramid shape and decorated with colorful lights outside the Genesee Brew House on St. Paul Street. The keg tree lighting ceremony always attracts a large crowd. Something health officials have advised against.

The brewery issued a statement on Tuesday:

"We’ve received many questions about the Genesee Keg Tree. Unfortunately, we have decided that the best decision is to skip it this year. It’s definitely disappointing to all of us but in true Genesee fashion, we’ve brewed up a new way to celebrate. This year, Dean Jones, Genesee Brew House brewmaster has crafted not one but two delicious new holiday beers! Blood Orange Cranberry Cream Ale and a Bourbon Barrel Aged Winter Warmer have arrived to spread some Genny cheer."

The keg tree made its debut in 2014.
