WILLIAMSON, N.Y. — A Meals on Wheels volunteer in Wayne County is bringing more than just food to the people he visits.
Cindy Keller works with Scotty Griswold delivering the meals to people in need.
She nominated him to be one of our Everyday Heroes because of the smiles he brings to others.
"Scotty and I do it a couple of times a month and we enjoy it," said Keller.
The meals are provided by the Wayne County Department of Aging and Youth through partnerships with the ARC of Wayne and Home Meal Service.
However, it's not just the meals on Scotty's route that people look forward to.
"He very friendly. He's always, I don't know, he's always upbeat. He makes my day. He's just a good guy," said Elaine Gruet, who receives regular meal deliveries.
It's something Scotty, who has down syndrome, can't wait for every other week especially because the pandemic prevents him from going to his daily programs.
"His options are limited on what he can do and can't do and sometimes just can't find enough things, but the volunteer work that he does really fills a gap for him," said Scott Griswold, Scotty's dad.
So it's a win-win for the recipients and for Scotty, who loves helping others.
"He's a very caring, genuine 32-year-old guy," said Keller. "He just cares a lot about people."
