More than 130 golfers teed off on Sunday at the 11th Annual KC Classic to raise money for COVID relief.
Jeff Collins organized the event at Mill Creek Golf Course in Churchville in honor of his father, Kevin, who passed away in 2005.
"My family and friends were all avid golfers. My dad was not," said Collins.
That doesn't mean there wasn't a way to honor him through golf.
This year, proceeds will go the Rochester Area Community Foundation.
"We wanted to make sure that we were doing in honor of his legacy, continuing his big heart that he had. He was always about taking care of friends and family so we wanted to continue with that," said Collins.
Collins says there more than 130 played in the classic, and that's the most they've ever had.
He is happy that there are so many that want to help those struggling during the pandemic.
"Being able to contribute in just a little way to those that have been affected. They've lost their job or they are currently furloughed or they work for an organization where the resources aren't where they normally are so it's just a little bit that we can do for a community that we are all proud to be a part of," Collins explained.
With the funds raised from the classic and the raffle, Collins intends to donate the Community Crisis Fund as soon as possible.
