The woman who bought the gun that was used to shoot two West Webster firefighters in a deadly Christmas Eve ambush in 2012, is asking a judge for compassionate release during the COVID pandemic.
Dawn Nguyen was sentenced to state time and an 8-year federal prison sentence in 2014, after pleading guilty to federal charges of buying a gun for a convicted felon. William Spengler used that gun to shoot and kill firefighters Mike Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka before taking his own life.
In her handwritten letter sent to Judge David Larimer earlier this month, she asks for a compassionate release saying she has underlying medical conditions and is susceptible to contracting COVID-19. In her letter, she lists a number of ways that the prison is not clean and does not allow them to social distance.
Nguyen's release date was set for 2021, but she writes in the letter she is due to be released in December.
Nguyen is currently in prison in West Virginia.
