A Penfield couple has finally returned home after they were quarantined while on a cruise ship several weeks ago.
"After 37 days between the cruise and the quarantine and everything else, it feels great," said Kevin Crouch.
It may have taken a month longer than expected, but Kevin and Pat Crouch are relieved to be back home on what was supposed to be a 10-day cruise from California to Hawaii.
Everything was going well until some of the passengers began showing symptoms of the coronavirus off the coast of San Francisco.
Then, they were stuck on the cruise ship for six days.
"It was OK because they'd come around and slid a piece of paper under our doors and ask what we would like for breakfast, lunch, and dinner," Crouch explained.
Crouch said the lack of communication between CDC, HHS, and the state of California was very frustrating.
"They put us on the bus to wait for an hour and when we came out, they took our temperatures and asked us questions and we answered them all, and then they put us back on the ship and two hours later they took us off the ship and put us on a bus again asking the same questions, taking our temperatures again," said Crouch.
For the next 14 days, they were quarantined in a compound in Georgia.
"There were fences all the way around and we can only go so far. It's like going to the zoo, only we were the animals and people were looking at us," said Crouch.
Once they were free to leave, the Crouchs decided to make a 14-hour drive back to Penfield.
The whole experience has given them second thoughts about cruises.
"We will never go on Princess again. Right now it's too raw, we've been cruising for 25 years so who knows if we will cruise," said Crouch.
However it won't stop them traveling but they will just go by car instead.
"We missed our family, we missed our friends, but we miss freedom the most," said Crouch.
