WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—   Revitalizing Downtown Winston-Salem-- in style. Non-profit Creative Corridors Coalition is working with the DOT to build the Green Street Pedestrian Bridge.

  • A new pedestrian bridge is under construction in Downtown Winston-Salem.
  • It will cross over Business 40 on Green Street.
  • The art installation is designed by the same person who designed the Twin Arches.

It will cross over Business 40, where a previous bridge was torn down. This time it's just for people, not cars.

"It got hit by an object coming down Business 40 that put it out of commission. So it was no longer accessible for vehicular traffic. So it became a pedestrian bridge. Now this is an opportunity to take this to the next exponential level,” Joycelyn Johnson with Creative Corridors said.

It is the same designer as the Twin Arches, Donald MacDonald.

"Whether you are a native, or if you're just traveling through, you see this beautiful structure in place. If you're leaving us and going from east to west, it's about connectivity,” Johnson said.

Crews will install one piece of the new bridge every night for the next four nights. The whole project is scheduled to be completed within the next couple of weeks.
