The Rochester Police Locust Club held its fifth annual blood drive Wednesday, in memory of Daryl Pierson, who was shot and killed by a gunman in September 2014.

Police officers and members of the community participated in the drive.

"Daryl's still saving lives and that's what it's all about," said Captain David Smith of the Rochester Police Department. "Ultimately, Daryl gave his life for this community. His children gave up their father for this community, and his wife gave up her husband for this community, and it's our way of showing our appreciation for that."

Organizers of the event say each donation will help save up to three people in the area, and they expect blood donations to help more than 150 people in the region this week.
