What started as a Facebook event Monday morning asking people to put up blue lights outside their homes quickly took on a life of its own.
The community is rallying support for office Denny Wright as he continues to recover in the hospital after suffering multiple stab wounds.
“I simply wanted to change a light bulb,” said Bobbi Jo Corino, social media organizer for “Go Blue for Denny and RPD.”
The canopy at the Greater Rochester International Airport and the Rochester skyline were lit blue Monday night to support Wright.
Wright is still recovering at Rochester General Hospital which is also lit up in his honor.
"It doesn’t matter that you’re black, white, pink, purple, yellow, green, blue...it doesn’t matter. It’s the common bond of we support you," Corino said.
Corino is married to a police officer and said the gesture would make her feel grateful towards the community.
More events similar to lighting are in the works to garner public support.
“I can tell you that as a wife of a police officer, when I kiss him goodbye to go to his shift and I tell him to have a goodnight and be careful, I don’t know if that’s going to be the last time that I get to do that,” Corino said.
