A new name will be on the ballot for the 56th district of the New York State Senate.

Sherita Traywick announced she will be running for senate on Friday. Her service for the state started 19 years ago when she worked as a legislative assistant to Senator Richard Dollinger.

Traywick is a member of the Greece Central School Board and education is one of her biggest platforms.

"We see under-funding in education way too much. We need to make sure Albany is giving us the money we need in order to educate our children properly," she said. "Kids are coming to school with more problems than we've ever seen before, but we don't really see our aid increasing to the level that we need."

The seat is currently held by Senator Joe Robach. Spectrum News has reached out to him for comment.
