A world-famous artist with studios in Rochester hosted a final show Thursday at his location on Lyell Avenue.

Artist Albert Paley said after 10 years in the space, he is changing focus and entering a new chapter in his life.

“My lease is up at the end of the year and I’ve gone through five different studios on Rochester,” he said. “At this point, I want to just focus more on the design aspect rather than the fabrication.”

The artist said all fabrications happened in-house, but that will now transition to designing and feasibility studies, with the actual fabrication being outsourced to other people.

“It’s basically business as usual, but the physicality of this space will be – I’ll be building more in the design capacity,” Paley said.

The artist still has three studios with two locations in California and one remaining in Rochester.

“We’re still going to be exhibiting, we’re still going to be sending work out,” he said.

The final event at the Lyell Avenue location was an opportunity to bring people with an interest in art together in a shared space.

"I’ve been a professor in the educational arena for many years and art and education are seen as one thing,” Paley said. “It’s basically how people think, how people feel and the perspective that you change and hopefully I’ve been able to afford that to individuals."
