An exciting announcement from Bristol Mountain is good news for the Rochester and Finger Lakes region.

Bristol Mountain is set to host the largest event to ever hit its slopes since the resort opened in the 1960s.

U.S. Ski & Snowboard has selected Bristol Mountain as its host for the 2020 and 2021 U.S. Aerials Freestyle Championships.

It’ll bring the top aerial freestyle skiers to the area, along with coaches, trainers, family and spectators.

The competitions will take place on March 14, 2020 and March 13, 2021 and will draw top athletes from around the country.

"An event like this, in the past has been held at the Olympic training center in Lake Placid and also the Olympic Training Center in Utah. So for us, Bristol Mountain, to be able to hold this type of event is pretty spectacular, very unique, of course," said Steven Fuller, vice president at Bristol Mountain.

"This is a terrific event for Monroe and Ontario Counties. It's at a great time of year, March, and it's not just the athletes, it's the athletes, their families, their friends. This will give us some nationwide exposure," said Visit Rochester's Don Jeffries.

Tickets will be sold to the public at a future date for the four-day event.
