This past winter, DC Hauling Excavating and Snowplowing got a call back from a Medina family in need of a new driveway.
Their home had a dirt path instead of pavement, which make it difficult for one of the family members in a wheelchair to navigate. But the biggest problem was the replacement cost.
"The funds weren't there [but it] shouldn't be a reason for safety not to take priority,” owner Heather Colella said. “I told them I would do what I could to make sure they got what they needed and got that driveway."
Colella decided to do the work for free. She also created a fundraiser on Facebook to raise money to help pay for the stone that was used. Other local businesses chipped in by donating materials and equipment.
Her team put in the new gravel driveway on Thursday.
"We have had so much support from our community so for us to give back to our community in this way, it sets the tone. It’s the reason why we do what we do at DC Hauling,” Colella said. "In the world we live in today with all this negativity a good story can really make a difference."
The construction company is located on Section Road in Holley.
