A new device invented by Webster High School students is making basketball more inclusive for students with disabilities.

Adam Gasner and Ryan McVeigh are members of Webster's Sparx robotics team

The students say they were approached by the lead mentor of the team who asked if they'd be interested in developing the launcher as a side project. It's known as Liam's Launcher— named after Liam McCarthy— a member of the district's unified basketball team.

Liam's father Terry McCarthy says it was amazing to see liam take his first shot with the launcher.

"As a parent, what do you want?  You want to see your kid finding success," McCarthy said. "You want to see your kids being part of a team, being part of something… making an impact and we had all those emotions and it was really cool."

Liam coaches for the unified basketball team and gets to show off the launcher during a skills competition at halftime.
