There are many small local charities on Staten Island and one donut shop owner did not want them to get glazed over.
Donut World is now rolling out the “Do Good Dozen.” It's a box of assorted doughnuts sold to benefit local charities. Each box costs $18 dollars.
Twenty-five percent of the proceeds will go towards a different charity each month.
For the first month of this campaign, money raised will benefit “On Your Mark,” a nonprofit that provides jobs for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. The owner says this is a great way to bring awareness to local charities.
“I have a nephew who has special needs and I thought it would be a great thing to give something back to the community. We call it the three W’s. It’s a win for the customers because they’re always happy, it’s a win for the business and a win for the charity,” said Owner, Steve Rubin. "It brings awareness to the community, there’s actually a lot of charities on Staten Island that I was unaware of and I feel good about you know giving something back.”
Next month, donut world will highlight the nonprofit, “A Very Special Place,” which provides services for people with disabilities and their families.
