More than 300 staff and 800 inmates will be uprooted and moved from the Livingston Correctional Facility.
The state Department of Corrections announced Friday the facility is one of two prisons in the state slated for closure as part of the governor's 2020 budget.
The DOC says the decision to close the two facilities was made after a review of all 54 correctional facilities in the state.
The state says the closure plan has contingencies in place to relocate and transition staff to other facilities or state agencies.
The 2020 budget allows for the closure of up to three prisons.
