Victor track has found a few ways to honor the memory of Bob Goodell.

The longtime coach fought cancer for nearly five years before he passed away in November. His name now graces the team's record boards which were unveiled during the Bob Goodell Twilight Meet this weekend.

While he was a Red Jacket Hall of Famer as a runner, Goodell is remembered more as a caring coach and a devoted father.

“My dad would not only talk the sport but what's your plan for after graduation,” said Bob Goodell, Jr. “Education was always a big thing for him because he was a teacher as well."

Mike Bayley was one of Goodell's star hurdlers. He says November 30 was an awful day for him. Bayley wrote that day on his arm before States last month, and won an emotional state title.

That race was everything to me, that week, I was just completely focused on myself to put everything into that race,” Bayley said.

Goodell passed away a few months before Bayley earned a scholarship offer from Auburn — a door that wouldn't have opened without help from his longtime coach.

“I knew that I could not live with winning and everyone saying that I'm the best when I can't technically say that because I know there's something better; a better league, a better Division, so the SEC is the best Division and Coach Goodell knew that about me too,” Bayley added.

Goodell started coaching at Greece-Olympia High School in 1975. Bayley was just one of the lives he touched over four decades of teaching.
