The Seneca Park Zoo is raising awareness about African penguins.

Saturday's snowy weather offered a lesson to visitors at the zoo as these penguins are acclimated to warmer climates.

Folks also got to see feeding demonstrations and get an up close look at the animals.

Zookeeper Kevin Blakely says 98 percent of the species has died off over the last 100 years, leaving it endangered.

"We continue to lose two percent a year so at that rate, it's conceivable that they could be extinct in your children's lifetime," said Blakely.

Seneca Park Zoo also highlighted its work to restore the penguin population through the saving animals from extinction program.
