The Marcus Whitman Youth Baseball Program has nearly run out of its budget after learning of the need to find and build a new playing space for the kids. This was all due to a capital project in the Marcus Whitman Central School District where the kids grew out of the space.
The Rushville Village Park was a perfect place for them to rebuild and benefits the entire community. Much community support up until this point has taken care of most of their equipment and the beginning of construction on park. If they don’t receive enough contributions to bring the field up to code, operations could be suspended.
“Some of our direct supports include parents of some of our kids who have stepped up,” said Don Sutherland, Marcus Whitman Youth Baseball program director. “I put the word out hoping someone would help and several people came forward in big, big respects.”
“It’s very important to all the kids,” said Mary Ayers, parent. “They love to play baseball and I’m glad to see that we have access to this park and we’re trying to get it put together for the kids so they have a permanent place to come and practice and play games.
The league is also holding a BBQ fundraiser at the open field next to the Bagley Building on Main Street in Rushville. It's on Saturday April 20, and starts at 11 a.m. If you’d like to contribute, visit this GoFundMe site.
