Museums in Rochester are allowing families who receive state assistance to experience all that the city has to offer for free.

The Memorial Art Gallery announced the new promotion on Wednesday. It applies to up to four people with a SNAP or EBT card.

The MAG offers several programs to allow more people with limited means to experience the gallery including MAGConnect. The program, which started three years ago, offers free transportation and admission for those who fit the criteria.

"The cultural organizations are there for everybody," said Marlene Hamann-Whitmore, Memorial Art Gallery. "In a perfect world people give what they can to keep doors open for all of us. Everyone of us needs a hand or someone to help us stand up from time to time, we all do. So I honestly hope that people see this for the wonderful opportunity that it is."

The George Eastman Museum also has free admission for SNAP families. While the Strong Museum of Play offers a discounted price of $3 per person, up to four individuals.

The MAG will also continue to offer $5 Fridays once a month where everyone is welcome to visit the museum at that reduced rate.
