The city of Rochester is narrowing down its search for a new police chief.

Mayor Lovely Warren says about 20 people applied for the position. She says the city is looking for someone who can continue building trust with the community.

"Even though crime rates and shootings and all that have seen a downward trend, we want to stay vigilant, stay committed to it and making sure that we are preparing not only our residents but also officers for the future," said Warren.

The next step of the process is for the review team to go through applications and make a recommendation.

Interim Chief Mark Simmons has headed up the Rochester Police Department since Michael Ciminelli stepped down.
