The Monroe County Clerk is challenging Cheryl Dinolfo for the county's top job.

Adam Bello announced his bid while in attendance at the Democrats' designating meeting in the town of Brighton Monday night. The committee there unanimously endorsed Bello for the seat.

Bello has been in office since he was appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo in early 2016. He was officially elected into the office of county clerk later that year.

Bello is poised to take on Republican Cheryl Dinolfo, who is in her first term.

At that same meeting, a new candidate for Monroe County District Attorney was announced as well.

Shani Mitchell was endorsed by Brighton Democrats to run for the top law enforcement official in the county.

Mitchell has been a prosecutor. She was previously exploring a run for city court judge.

Mitchell would be challenging Republican incumbent Sandra Doorley.
