ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester Summer Soul Music Festival starts this weekend and many of the artists are already in town. Three-time Grammy-nominated American R&B record producer, radio host and recording artist Al B Sure is one. He says that he celebrated the 30th anniversary of his hit single “Nite and Day.”
“30 years since the release of (the song),” said Sure, “It’s truly a blessing that we are still doing this at the highest level all around the world.”
To be back in Rochester he says is an exciting time. “Besides just on the music side, Rochester obviously has very rich history as well. I just enjoy the region and enjoy visiting and I’m looking forward to the concert as well.”
He’s not he only one. Up-and-coming 12-year-old artist Eli says he is excited to share the stage with some of R&B and soul music greats including Angie Stone, Musiq Soulchild, Raheem Devaughn and more.
“Just getting to know everybody, just vibing out with the crowd and just having fun – that’s the best part about being on stage,” said Eli.
From overcoming bullying to performing nationwide he says the journey has just started and with a callback, hoping to perform as young Michael Jackson on Broadway, he is hopeful.
“I pray to God that I get this role because this could change my career,” he added.
The weekend festival is set for Saturday and Sunday at Frontier Field there will be a free community block party from 11 .m. to 4 p.m. in the stadium parking lots.
