ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Jordan Health Center CEO Janice Harbin is now accusing the 1199 SEIU union of telling "blatant lies" about ongoing negotiations.
Harbin says the center did not reject an offer from the federal mediator, but rather offered two contract options. One that would provide the union a 6 percent wage increase by the year 2020 and another that would give them their asking of 7 percent but over a longer time period.
"If that was not acceptable, we had said we would do 0, 4, 2, 1 with the contract beginning July 1 of this year and ending June 30 of 2021," said Jordan Health Center CEO said Janice Harbin.
The union says that offer was not a negotiation that they could reasonably accept.
"We can't project our healthcare needs that far ahead and I think they knew that. It was their attempt to say 'no' without making it appear like they were saying no," said Jordan Health Center employee Christopher Roe.
Out of the 330 employees working at Jordan Health Center, only 68 belong to 1199.
"So whatever they decide to do, does not impact what we must do. And what we must do is keep our doors open, to remain strong and to remain faithful to this community over these coming years," said Harbin.
Roe says that the last time union workers attempted to negotiate with the Jordan Health board of directors, they were escorted off the property.
"I'm not sure what the next step is. We're going to continue fighting, we're going to continue standing together. We're going to get through this, one way or the other," said Roe.
