ROCHESTER N.Y. – Summer Jam, sponsored by Rochester radio station 98PXY, returned to Frontier Field on Thursday to kick off the summer.

“It’s a Rochester institution, it really is,” said 98PXY Morning Show Co-Host, Corey James.

98PXY offered Hilton High School seniors free tickets for the event. Hilton students came out not only to celebrate, but to also remember Paige Smith, 18, who was killed in a car crash on Sunday.

Zachary Cahill, a junior at Hilton High School said, “We are here to support the loved one we lost and bring everyone together to have a good time today.”

Cahill said Paige was a friend and the loss has been devastating for the Hilton community.

“It really helps us as a community to show that Hilton is one big family as a unit together.”

In between live performances from artists such as 2018 Grammy Winner Alessia Cara, a moment of silence was held for Paige.

Whitney Young, another 98PXY Morning Show Co-Host said, “This happening right before graduation—that is so particularly gut-wrenching and because we have this event going on at this time, we thought, you know what, this is an opportunity for us to give back to the community and bring people together and give them, the people that are grieving right now, an escape for the evening.”

Approximately 7,000 people attended the event.
