State Police are hoping to shine new light on a decades old homicide case.

It’s been over 19 years since the remains of Anthony Blackburn were found in a wooded area in the town of Springwater in Livingston County.

Blackburn was reported missing from the Rochester area in 1993.

Two hikers located what were determined to be his remains in July 1999.

Blackburn was known to hunt in the area where his body was found, but the cause of death was officially ruled a homicide after the medical examiner determined he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.

State Police continue to investigate and urge anyone who may know anything to come forward.

“We’re hoping that anybody that has any information on this, and hasn’t called in the past, to call now. It’s been 19 and a half years. We’d be willing to listen to anything, just to try to generate a lead on this, to try to get it moving in a direction that we’d like it to go in,” said Senior Investigator Rick Kemp.

Troopers will be using social media to try and drum up new leads too. The case will be featured on the State Police Facebook page.
