NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — If you're sick of the potholes we've seen this winter, imagine living with them for years.

That's apparently what's been happening across the city of Niagara Falls.

Leaders there say the eyesores have been on their to-do list for quite some time, but there's been one big roadblock in the process.

Because of how close potholes are to CSX train tracks, they're legally on CSX property. And after multiple emails, the city is still waiting to get permission before starting work.

"We're trying to reach out and see if they're going to give us the green light. And I'm willing to come out here and put our people out here and patch it and make it a little bit more drivable for our residents,” said John Caso, director of Niagara Falls Parks & Public Works.

A CSX spokesperson released a statement Wednesday afternoon:

"CSX takes concerns over crossing safety very seriously and works closely with local road authorities throughout our network to ensure a safe passage way for the motoring public. CSX is in constant communication with the City of Niagara Falls Department of Public Works to address grade crossing repairs, and we are working with the city to initiate permanent road repair plans when the weather permits."
