HENRIETTA, N.Y. — The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says Rochester City Court Judge Leticia Astacio tried to buy a gun at a local store, and was turned down by employees.
The sheriff's office says the judge tried to buy a shotgun at Dick's Sporting Goods in Henrietta, but was denied based on what deputies say is "store policy."
A manager at the store had no comment about the attempted purchase Monday.
Deputies spoke with store employees and forwarded their information to the county's probation office for any possible follow up.
While Judge Astacio pleaded guilty to a probation violation last year, it was a misdemeanor and not a felony.
Astacio has not been to work in recent months as ordered, previously citing a medical issue.
The Monroe County Probation Department will investigate the attempted firearms purchase. According to a county spokesman, the probation department will turn over its findings to Judge Aronson, who set the terms of Astacio's probation.
Dick's Sporting Goods officials did not immediately return a request for comment.
