ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The countdown for baseball to begin in Rochester this year is underway. In just over a week, the seats at Frontier field will be filled with fans cheering on the Red Wings.

A lot goes into getting ready for the season: There's spring training in Florida, there's groundskeeping under sometimes less than perfect weather conditions, and of course, tthere's food.

The Red Wings' introduced a number of new food choices Thursday. How about sweet-potato tots or maybe a meatloaf sandwich, or Executive Chef Ryan Donalty's personal favorite:

"The chicken and waffle cones that you guys sampled today," Donalty said. "There's a little bit of salt, there's a little bit of savory, there's a little bit of sweetness from the maple syrup. You know we also get the crunch from the waffle cone and we just try to have a well-balanced, well-rounded, texturally-composed dish."

Frontier Field is a perfectmatch for Donalty — he remembers playing sectional games here from his high school baseball team at Greece Oddyssey High School.
