ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Red Wings are calling foul on a local apparel line they say depicts the club's mascot holding an assault rifle.
According to the Red Wings, the "Rochester Red Beams" used their logo to create a line of hats, shirts, stickers and more.
The Wings say the move is an infringement on their trademark. They're now working with legal teams to address the issue.
"We clearly are not happy about it. We did not give our approval to use our logo in that fashion. We feel that it is a trademark infringement, and we have got our legal team at minor league baseball on it. They handle a lot of the trademark agreements and licensing and so forth, and they are looking into it as we speak,” said Dan Mason, Rochester Red Wings general manager.
The "Rochester Red Beams" trademark applicant did not immediately return a request for comment.
