ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- For the first time the George Eastman Museum is showcasing the best of its Sweet Creations gingerbread house competition until New Year’s.

“I’ve been wanting to go all season," said Laura Beland of Williamson. "And it just seemed like a good day to go!”

Some are recognizable – like the castle from “Beauty and the Beast.”

Another one is a beauty on the beach.

But some here said they prefer the winter wonderland.

“I moved to Florida, so this is kind of like a get out of the house, seeing the snow," said Heather Holley of Haines City, Florida.

Local residents designed the creations – and some even highlight local landmarks.

Visitors say personal experience helps them appreciate the labor involved.

“My work actually had a little gingerbread competition," Holley said. "And we did horrible. Really. We got last place. But it was still fun to do!”

Fun is the key ingredient here – because even the finest gingerbread masterpiece won’t last forever.

The exhibit is free to museum members and included with the price of admission for non-members. The last day to see the display is December 31.
