ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Wayne County District Attorney race is between Republican David Fulvio and Democrat Michael Calarco, who is, at 63, more than double Fulvio's age.
Fulvio, a 30-year-old graduate of Boston University's School of Law, works primarily as a defense attorney for the Villani & Grow Law Firm in Lyons. Calarco, a graduate of Syracuse University's College of Law, runs a private practice out of his offices in Newark.
According to Fulvio, the violent felony arrests to felony convictions ratios are half of what they are in neighboring counties, like Seneca, Livingston, and Ontario.
"I would like the Wayne County DA's office to have statistics that are consistent with our neighbors. I want to make Wayne County a place that is just as safe for families and businesses to reside as our neighbors are," said Fulvio.
Calarco says his experience as a prosecutor speaks for itself. He has worked for the Wayne County District Attorney's Office as an assistant district attorney since 1991.
"I've prosecuted thousands of cases, I've tried cases at nearly every level of the state court system. I've done felony trials, I've done grand jury proceedings, as well as just about every phase of prosecution over my 26 years," said Calarco, who hopes to use his connections and relationships in law enforcement to tackle the opioid epidemic.
The previous district attorney, Chris Bokelman, ended his campaign after another candidate was endorsed by the Republican Party.
