SPECTRUM NEWS VIDEO: Irondequoit football coach Dan Fichter encourages his players to compete in multiple sports.

He believes the exposure allows players to develop skills to excel on the football field.

In addition to the physical benefits, players say they're improving their mental game by experiencing pressure-cooker situations in other sports.

Freddie June Jr., Irondequoit's quarterback, says experiencing winning on the basketball court has offered insights on what it takes to build a winning culture.

"The pressure, I'm better at it now because I know what it's like playing in the states and sectional finals and winning those feels great," June Jr. said.

The top-seeded Eagles will attempt to capture their second sectional football title in four seasons when they face No. 2 Wilson November 3, at 7 p.m.
