UPDATE:

CHARLOTTE -- During their visit next week, Major League Soccer executives won't meet with Mecklenburg County Commissioners. This comes after commissioners pushed for a public meeting with them but MLS initially requested a private meeting.

Wednesday afternoon, County Canager Dena Diorio canceled the meeting and officials don't know when it will be rescheduled.

But MLS executives are still expected to meet with Mayor Jennifer Roberts, the city manager and other city staff in private next Tuesday.

"The actual negotiation when you get to dollars, and some more sensitive matters that you're competing with other cities about you may want to have those conversations private and actually state law, and local practice allows us to do that,” said Mayor Roberts.

MLS4CLT said next week's meeting with local officials has been "mischaracterized."

In a statement, the group said: “MLS never requested private meetings with public officials. This site visit was initiated by MLS4CLT, the local group seeking an MLS club for Charlotte. Tuesday’s visit will showcase the city of Charlotte and the proposed stadium site, practice facilities and other city assets, as well as introduce league officials to a variety of city and county leaders. These introductions are not intended to involve any substantive discussions or negotiations. MLS4CLT has participated in several public hearings and remains committed to open discussion throughout this process.”
