WEST SENECA, N.Y. -- A Rochester man is dead and another is in custody after a shooting at an AAU girls basketball game at the Niagara Frontier Sports Complex in West Seneca.
West Seneca Police say a 54-year-old man was shot multiple times Saturday night during a fight with a distant relative in the entrance of the complex. Both men were transported to a Buffalo hospital, where the shooting victim was pronounced dead.
Police have charged Andre Lewis, 39, with one count of second degree murder. They say he was also injured in the fight but was not shot.
Lewis was arraigned Sunday morning.
We were told the shooting happened at the end of the game as coaches talked to the team.
"It was described as chaotic, there were a lot of teenagers so it was certainly unusual for this area and type of event," said West Seneca Police Department Detective Captain Patrick Shea.
