ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Extreme poverty rates seem to be on the rise throughout Rochester. 

It's indicated in new data the United States Census Bureau released Thursday.

While the child poverty rate decreased from 52.5 percent to nearly 51 percent, the city’s rate of extreme poverty increased from 16.4 percent to 17 percent.

The report shows nearly 34 percent of the Rochester population lives in poverty.

The Flower City now ranks number one in overall poverty and fourth for its childhood poverty rate.
