CHARLOTTE --- With online shoppers taking advantage of Cyber Monday deals, police are on the lookout for thieves who take advantage of all the deliveries and steal packages from outside homes.  Online retailer Amazon is also trying to fight that unfortunate holiday crime trend by putting lockers up across the Charlotte area for safe package deliveries.

The lockers have popped up at 26 locations around Charlotte. Most are at QuikTrip stores, but there are a few at 7-Eleven locations and one inside the Northlake Mall.

"We know people are going to shop here at Northlake Mall and they're going to shop online, so we just offer it as a secure, confidential way that packages can be delivered to our customers and our shoppers," said Sherri Chisolm-Whiteside, marketing director at Northlake Mall.

If you want a package delivered to one of the lockers, just select "lockers" as the delivery address at checkout on Amazon.com. When your package has been delivered, you get a pick-up code via text or email. You simply enter that code on the touchscreen at the location, and then the door to whichever locker your package is in pops open.

The lockers not only help Amazon customers, they also increase foot traffic for the retailers.

"Once they pick up a package, they can also go to the mall and pick up a couple of other things," said Chisolm-Whiteside.
