ALBANY, N.Y. -- Helping the homeless and veterans, that was the theme at Crossgates Saturday for the Stuff the Bus donation event.

The event was put on by Albany County Cares.

It is an expansion of the annual Katie's Coats Drive which collected 10,000 coats over their first four years.

Saturday they accepted winter gear such as coats, hats, and scarves as well as hygiene products.

Organizers say it is important to help the homeless especially the veterans.

"It's absolutely amazing when you think about the fact that number one there are homeless veterans out there," said Mary Rozak, Albany County Executive Office director of communications. "Because at this time in particular when we think about on Veterans Day, what they they have sacrificed and what their families have sacrificed for our country, we should be doing all we can to help them."

Donations are given to the Veteran's Miracle Center and the Homeless and Travelers Aid Society.
