CALIFORNIA -- A Seneca County man serving time for the 2008 murder of his son in New York will now stand trial for the 1991 murder of his wife in California.
This week, a judge ruled there is enough evidence to charge Karl Karlsen with murder. He's scheduled to be arraigned later this month for the murder of his wife, Christina Alexander Karlsen. She died in a house fire, Karlsen is accused of setting.
In 2012, Karlsen pleaded guilty to intentionally crushing his son, Levi, under a pickup truck. He was sentenced to 15-years to life in prison for that murder.
Prosecutors said Karlsen collected $900,000 dollars from insurance policies after the deaths.
Once the California trial is over, he will be sent back to New York to finish out his sentence for the death of his son.
