ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- It's the same message heard over and over from victim's families; a request for peace and respect for human life.
Wednesday night Lynaya Griffin, 21, was remembered by more than 100 people through prayer, tears and moments of silence.
"Joyful you know because it's going to be hard to not hear those words, see she always called me, I'll I guess I'll say my nickname, she always said, 'Hey Uncle Knuckle,’" said Art Henderson, Griffin’s uncle.
Griffin was stabbed on Seward Street and taken by a private vehicle to Strong Memorial Hospital. She died there about an hour later. Griffin is the 23rd homicide victim in Rochester this year. Her family is still wondering why.
"I don't know, I wasn't there," Henderson said. "All I know is that they called me and told me to come to the hospital."
"It was just really random," Camri Harris said.
Harris organized the vigil. She said the turnout speaks to just how loved Griffin was.
"Yeah she's just goofy and kindhearted and caring everything. She's all in one she's all in one," Harris said
While they're all grieving they're also at peace, knowing Griffin is truly in a better place.
"We are going to celebrate her," Henderson said. "Right now we are we're doing a pre-home going."
The woman accused of killing Griffin was in court earlier Wednesday. Azya Gilbert-Jackson pleaded not guilty to the second-degree murder charges she's facing. She's back in court Friday.
Griffin's family said they're praying for her and her family.
