DALLAS -- A secessionist caused a stir on the floor of the state Republican convention Friday in Dallas.
He tried to insert language into the GOP's official platform that supported Texas' independence from the US.
Thousands of delegates were working out particulars about the party's platform when language backing secession was proposed.
Though the language drew applause from many of the delegates, it was eventually defeated.
This isn't the first time secessionist language has been proposed, but it has never sparked so much support on the convention floor.
On Thursday, a printed draft of the platform that included support for a referendum on secession was defeated by just two votes.
