PALMDALE — The Pentagon awarded a contract to make engineering changes for the F-35-A aircraft and some of that work will be done in Palmdale.

The $28.8 million contract was awarded to Lockheed Martin. The company must retrofit the F-35A to accommodate engineering changes made to the fuel tanks. The work will be done not only in Palmdale but also Fort Worth, Texas and Ogden, Utah. It's expected to finish by March of next year.
