DANSVILLE, N.Y. -- Nearly a dozen people are being temporarily housed after fire damaged a home in Livingston County early Thursday morning.

Dansville police said crews responded to a fire on Main Street in Dansville around 2:30 a.m. Police say there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the building, damaging the inside. Eleven people were able to escape. Six of them were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

All have been released and are being assisted by the Red Cross. A dog inside the home was rescued by two officers on scene. Police said the fire was caused by electrical issues, possibly from an extension cord inside the home.
