The New York State DOT wants motorists to be aware of some new snowplow gear out on the road this winter.

The state now has 62 new tow plows. The new gear connects right to DOT plow trucks and uses hydraulics to swing out to the side allowing one driver to plow and salt two lanes at once. It's equipped with rear view cameras to assist plow drivers and reduce blind spots.

Eight of the rigs will help clear snow and ice in our region.

"Our normal plows have a front plow that covers 12 feet of pavement. The tow plow will swing out and it only takes four seconds. It gets out there quick and it cover another 12 feet of pavement and that allows us to cover two full lanes of traffic at one time," said Kevin Bush, NYSDOT regional director.

New York's Respond Initiative provided $50 million for the new winter storm equipment.
